*In the month of November, the Fraternity and the Foundation distribute over 10000 Thanksgiving baskets, turkeys and trimmings included, to residents in the Golden Acres development as well as other adjacent neighborhoods in Broward County.
During the Christmas Holidays, the Fraternity and the Foundation continue to spread love in the local community by distributing bicycles to students enrolled in Charles Drew Elementary school in Pompano. Annually, the Foundation gives 100 plus bicycles.
*Our Neighborhood Refurbishing Program partnered the Kappa League members with the City of Pompano Beach CRA and Rebuilding Together to prep and paint 20 eligible homes in the Pompano Beach area. Some of the homes even received minor repairs along with flowers. Approximately 300 volunteers from Pompano and surrounding areas participated in this exciting event annually.
The Kappa League Program of Pompano Beach Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity promotes the academic and personal growth of young males by involving them in a variety of programs and activities that will make them productive citizens and an asset to the community in which they live. The standard programs/activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE: The Kappa Leaguers convened their inaugural Leadership Development Conference in March. The purpose of the conference, which included females and males from area high schools, was to provide seminars to impart the type of skills needed to become effective leaders in today’s society. The conference will be held on an annual basis.
COLLEGE TOUR INCLUDING S.T.E.A.M. ROUTE: In April, members of the Kappa League participated in the annual College Tour. The six day, five night tour was designed to expose students to selected colleges/universities to experience a first-hand look at campus life as well as exposure to careers relating to S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.) Colleges/universities visited included: South Carolina State University, Norfolk and Hampton Universities, Virginia State and Howard Universities, Duke University, University of North Carolina, North Carolina Central, Fayetteville State, Savannah State, and Bethune Cookman Universities. One of the highlights of the tour was the visit to the new African American Museum in Washington, DC!!
WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS: Throughout the academic year, Kappa Leaguers are engaged in workshops/seminars to develop their academic, career, and personal goals. Workshop/seminar topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
